Bellingham Pioneer Family

I am the descendent of the pioneer families Tarte and Jeffcott.  The Tartes came from England to Victoria via the Panama Canal and from there moved to  Blaine in 1869.  They homesteaded at Pleasant Valley (outside of Birch Bay) which was named by my Great Great Grandmother.  The Jeffcotts also came from England but came by train from the east coast in 1877. 

 

My Great Grandparents, Rebeccah Tarte and Percival Jeffcott were married in 1900.  Percival taught school atCuster and Ferndale and was a local historian who wrote several books.  They had 6 children.  One child, Warren died at a young age.  Stan was County Commisioner in the 1960's.  Bud owned Jeffcott Motor in Ferndale until 1976.  My Grandmother Rachel was born in 1903.  She married Irvin Carruthers in 1924 and had a daughter Joan who was born in 1926.

 

Joan married Calvin Longstreth, Jr. in 1947.  He was the son of Calvin and Carmen Longstreth, Sr. who was a doctor in Bellingham until 1970.  He practiced in the Bellingham National Bank Building and was very instrumental at the Medical Center for the Lummi Indian Tribe. 

 

Calvin Jr. and Joan moved to Lynden where they owned and operated Mc Lain Drug Store for many years. 

 

I was born in 1955.  I worked at what is now known as Verizon for 32 years.  I am now a real estate agent for Muljat Group.  I have been married to Jacki for 25 years and have one son Ryan.  We live in Bellingham and spend our summers at our family property on Lake Whatcom.
